Barkin’ Politics
Hi…I’m New Here
Winter Storm Gear
Here in NY we are currently having the largest snow storm of the season. When Chloe and I ventured out into the elements this morning she bundled up tighter than a Kindergartner to ensure she stayed warm and safe while we enjoyed the fresh powder. Keep your pooch toasty warm and protected during in-climate weather with a few of our winter essentials. First outerwear is essential!! We love the Sport Vest it’s a lined vest and the benefit of a vest is that it allows your pup’s legs to have maximum flexibility. Another fab jacket is the Toggle Parka (this is the one Chloe has). We adore this parka it has removable sleeves and a detachable hood!! If you plan to romp in areas that have been salted boots are a must-have!! While we have both functional and designer shoes we suggest selecting the functional design with ribbed bottom for extra traction and protection. For paws that are dry and cracked from extreme weather the BowWow Butter Balm or Mango PawPaya paw balms work wonders to restore moisture back into the paws. Another fantastic body product duo for winter is the FurButter and Comfy Dog Shampoo. Both products are great for dry chapped skin and restore luster and shine back into your pup’s coat. If you have a favorite winter product let we’d love to hear from you!!
Pinch an Inch
This weekend I was surfing the web and came across a website dedicated to
canine obesity and it turns out that February is National Canine Weight
Check Month. It struck a personal chord with me because just last summer
Chloe was a whopping 8 lbs. overweight. She was 22 lbs. when for her size
and bone structure she should have weighed in at about 14 lbs. Truth be
told we love her so much that when we snacked she snacked – when we ate -
she ate and sometimes for being so fabulous she ate alone. Much like people
the weight just crept up on us and before we knew it she truly was obese and
began to have medical issues. Finally, this summer we made a commitment as
a family that we were all going to shed a few pounds and needless to say
under the supervision of Chloe’s vet she stuck to her new diet and wellness
plan. In just 5 months she lost the weight and regained her puppy-like
spunk not to mention her health issues are cured.
Now that you know my story here are the hard facts: According to the Stop
Canine Obesity website 47% of vets feel their clients are overweight but
only 17% believe their dog fits the description!! For the month of February
veterinarians across the country are teaming up for the first-ever National
Canine Weight Check, a FREE and simple way to help you determine if your dog is overweight. I invite you to visit the website Stop Canine Obesity for
further details and please take advantage of the FREE weight assessment!!
Also, if you have a fab weight loss story we’d love to hear from you!!
Tag Your It
I can’t stress the importance of properly tagging your dog enough!! Yesterday, as I left my home and began traveling to work I noticed a Yorkie walking in the road. My first thought was “holy smokes” then I collected myself. I pulled the car over as I was worried the dog would be hit by a car and called him. He quickly scampered over and thank goodness he had a tag that clearly stated his name – address and phone number. He actually traveled close to 4 miles away from his home over a little more than 12 hours and his parents were worried to death over him (naturally, wouldn’t we all). In the past we have not carried charms that accept engraving or that can be easily marked with your dog’s information. After this experience we will concentrate our immediate efforts on finding unusual, trendy and fun ID tags that you and your pooch will adore and be eager to use but they will also serve as a a functional resource if your pooch ever finds himself/herself a stray from home!!
Collar Me Happy
Animal Planet’s Red Hot Collar & Leads
We are so over the moon!! Not once but twice this week alone Maggie & Dixie Gallant of Animal Planet.com have featured our products in their blog. Today the duo mentioned how collar and lead sets are the perfect Valentine’s Day Gift…After all what pup doesn’t love a little neck candy!! Our Tender Heart Collar and Lead was featured today. This particular collar and lead set is designed by a team of two sisters who set out to make a fun, funky, and unique collar and lead set. In our opinion that’s exactly what they did. We’ll go into detail about their designs tomorrow…But for now we’re starting our Valentine’s celebrations early…Thanks again Maggie, Dixie, and Animal Planet!! Here is the link to the blog entry: Girl’s Best Friend’s Best Friend
We “Heart” Animal Planet
Hooray!! Maggie & Dixie Gallant of Animal Planet selected our XOXO Bowl as a wonderful Valentine’s Day gift!! In her post she also mentions that one of her favorite hostess gifts is stylish doggie dish (much like this one) filled with adorable treats…This way the pet gets a fab new bowl and the hostess gets the scrumptious treats…Genius we say!! Once again we are so happy and honored she has selected us for her Animal Planet Blog we just had to share with you!! Check out Maggie’s & Dixie’s entire post here: My Bowl Runneth Over
Chew on This
Here’s the deal…You love your dog and want to pamper them with an assortment of fabulous toys but they seem to chew thru each one in a matter of moments. Great news…Our Huck and Hurley toys could just be the answer…They are wonderful to toss and fetch but the manufacturer West Paw also will make a one time replacement of your toy should your pooch manage to destroy it!! So now you have wonder what are these toys made of right!! They are made right here in the USA of an extremely tough, pliable, non-toxic material but they are easy for your pooch to pick up and they won’t hurt there teeth. What we also love is that both Huck and Hurley float and bounce making them fabulously versatile!! So aggressive chewers – tuggers and fetchers bring your “A” game for this toy!!
Little Dog – Big World
Being a tiny dog is a lot like a being 5′5″ woman (take it from me, I am one) trying to find jeans. At the risk of sounding like Goldie-locks they are either too long – too short but they are never just right!! The same holds true for tiny dogs most toys and bowls are just way too big for them and collars forget about it…The buckle is usually bigger than the dogs entire neck!! Good news…It may require a little digging but finally designers are answering the call of tiny pups!! We found the most darling itsy bitsy bowls which are available in pink, blue, or pink leopard and they are just the perfect size for the tiniest pampered pooches!! If playtime is what your petite pup craves try the Sweet Pals and Little Friends toy collections these teeny toys max out at just 3.5″ in length!! Then for the daunting task of collar or harness shopping we love Susan Lanci’s Ultrasuede collars. They are so lightweight and feature a streamline buckle plus they have fabulously fun adornments check out our favs…The Cupcake Cheer and Jolly Roger!! If you prefer a harness, you can’t go wrong with a step in harness and we just love the new nylon variety…Here’s a few we can’t get enough of…The Floral Burst, Daisy Doodle, and Sunburst Dots!!
